World Happiness Day or The International Day of Happiness is celebrated throughout the world on the 20th of March. It was founded by Illien Global CEO Jayme Illien in 2006 .
Jayme Illien is the UN spokesperson for Economists for Peace and Security, the UN New Economic Paradigm initiative, and ‘happytalism,’ both of which seek to change the way countries view economic development by relying on ‘happytalism’ rather than capitalism and was established by the United Nations General Assembly on 28 June 2012.
“Happiness is a warm puppy.” — Charles M. Schulz
International Day of Happiness Aims
The goal of the International Day of Happiness is to spread happiness around the world by empowering people to share their joy with others, no matter how big or small, by encouraging each other and each country to put its citizens’ happiness first.
“Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.” — Abraham Lincoln
Happiness, according to the Ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, Happiness is the meaning and purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence, while happiness is the end goal.
Happiness will lead to a more equitable and responsible approach to economic growth in general, one that prioritizes sustainable development, alleviates poverty, and improves personal and social well-being.
“There are lots of people I admire and respect, but I don’t necessarily want to be like them. I’m too happy being myself.” — James D’arcy
Bhutan, an East Asian country, is a great example of this, having embraced the concept of Gross National Happiness over Gross National Product in the 1990s, prioritizing its citizens’ happiness in all economic decisions.
On a personal level, happiness will brighten every day and add significant value to your life. But what if happiness were cherished on a global level? What effect will this have on the economy or society as a whole?
